Spike and I got out last weekend and refined the Lockwood Valley Loop. It was a beautiful cool and clear day in Southern California with minimal traffic even on the short freeway sections of the adventure. After a very scenic cruise up Pacific Coast Highway, we turned inland for some great two lane riding on our way to Ojai. We enjoyed lunch at The Deer Lodge and hung out with the Harley crowd for a bit. The roads up and down the passes on the way to Lockwood Valley and Frazier Park were a real treat. In the Gorman area the wild flowers were attracting photographers on the roadside. From there the route paralleled the San Andreas Fault and the California Aqueduct. After that, we added a real gem to this adventure, Pine Canyon Road which at times is little more than a goat trail. Next on the itinerary was Lake Hughes, home of The Rock Inn and Elizabeth Lake. From there we skirted Lancaster and took the beautiful Angeles Forest Highway back to home base. It was a killer day. Come and join in on the fun next time.

i met thumper and spike at cooks this morning, we took off for 'parts unknown'. a bit chilly (my therm read 36 when i left my house), so we bundled up and headed out. we ended up going south through ortega with no construction stops. a quick break at the lookout and then on to sandia creek. this road was pretty dirty due to all the dried mud on the roads, but it was still fun. the day warmed up pretty nicely (into the 60s) and we wove our way over lilac road and a few others. we decided to lunch it at a casino buffet, and in semi-comatose post-lunch stupors we slabbed it home.
not bad for a day ride in december ... too bad i didn't bring the camera.

I thought this forum might be a solid place to brainstorm and share past experiences of the various diners and dives that we frequent on ride days in SoCal.
Personally I like eating breakfast before eating tires.

Here are a few favorites of mine off the top of my head to begin with.

1. Beach Break Cafe in Oceanside. Corner of Kelly and El Camino Real, offramp from 5 south, Cassidy west to El Camino Real one block south. I recommend the Chicken Fried Steak or the Danger Burger with a fried egg.

2. Sunrise Cafe in Vista. 78 east to Mar Vista east over freeway to Santa Fe Ave left will be first building on right at 1250 S Santa Fe Ave. I'm still working on the menu but so far all has been excellent. Food servings aren't massive so you don't feel heavy all day.

3. Cuyamaca Diner at Lake Cuyamaca. About 4 miles south on the 79 from the S1. Best apple pie anywhere. Don't order the chicken quesadilla unless you like chicken nuggets melted in cheese, the hamburgers and reuben are off the wall nasty and the service is a nightmare. But on a beautiful day at a half-way point overlooking the lake on the patio it's worth it just for the pie. Just a stones throw from Julian no crowds, mobs or rude people, well except the cashier.

I'm still looking for a place to eat in DeLuz, any ideas? Acorns just don't do it.

This topic might be better served as a poll, what do you think?
The weather was typical of Southern California with fog and 60's at Cook's Corner, our staging point and 100's in Borrego Springs, one of our gas stops. It was a good group of guys and some great roads.

Here are some pictures from our latest Adventure. Bob rode a very nice BMW R1200RT and David showed up with a brand new Can-Am Spyder. The weather was typical of Southern California with fog and 60's at Cook's Corner, our staging point and 100's in Borrego Springs, one of our gas stops. It was a good group of guys and some great roads.
